Medical History

MSAT, formerly known as MST, is a non-traditional acupuncture treatment and was introduced by a Korean oriental doctor named Joon-shik Shin in 1990. This technique has been producing the desired results in musculoskeletal pain treatment, especially for those with severely limited mobility due to extreme pain.

MSAT has had a dramatic effect on pain relief and facilitated mobility. This treatment is practiced regularly in our branches, which have been designated by the Korean Ministry of Health. Damage of the spine, ligaments, muscles, or cartilage surrounding the joints causes inflammation and severe pain, making it difficult for patients to move. If these conditions are neglected, the spine, joint muscles and ligaments become hardened; blood does not circulate properly, which aggravates the pain.

Comparison to Traditional Acupuncture

MSAT is similar to traditional acupuncture in that needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points along meridians of the body and stimulate manually. The differentiating factor is that while traditional acupuncture encourages patients to stay still and relaxed after the insertion of the needles, Jaseng MSAT requires them to engage in assisted movement of the body for a necessary amount of time. The acupuncture points and area of mobilization used in Jaseng MSAT vary depending on the symptoms and areas of pain, e.g., low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, temporomandibular pain, etc. The specific type of Jaseng MSAT used for acute back pain is called H-MSAT (Help-Motion Style Acupuncture Treatment) because the patient is “helped” by assistants—as illustrated above.

Indication

MSAT covers a wide range of conditions: first-aid treatment for patients suffering from intense pain of acute musculoskeletal origin, various spine and joint pain, temporomandibular joint syndrome, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), gonarthritis, and intervertebral disc herniation.
